Prakash Jha on Satyagraha: The essence is with Nirbhaya (case), Mahatma Gandhi and Anna Hazare

Satyagraha is a film of revolution and it is confirmed by now. But when asked about the motivation behind its revolution, filmmaker Prakash Jha revealed that it is neither the story of Mahatma Gandhi nor social activist Anna Hazare, though the essence of the film will remind us of the same.

Jha told reporters at an event, "Middle class people across the world protest if they are in a democracy. The film is not about Anna Hazare... There is no reflection of his protest. But the essence is with Nirbhaya (case), Mahatma Gandhi and Anna Hazare.” The Raghupati Raghav song from the film was launched yesterday by the entire Satyagraha team comprising Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Ajay Devgan, Manoj Bajpai, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao. As told by Jha, "We have retained the initial lines of original prayer and added new lines keeping in mind the sentiments of people today.”

Though the film doesn’t hint at any solution, Jha is quite sure that the film will be an entertainer for its audience. In Satyagraha, Bachchan is like a modern day Gandhi who is a true believer of truth. Amrita Rao is the daughter-in-law of Big B, Ajay is an industrialist who uses the present system to reach his destination while Kareena is a hardcore journalist. According to Kareena, "My character isn`t inspired from any journalist. Dignity, and integrity is what I am. I can`t ask the questions like media asks.” Arjun Rampal portrays a strong person totally committed to his society and an aspiring politician. Manoj Bajpai is a devious young politician who goes to every extent to break the system. Jha has praised all the stars of his film for their hard work and sincerity. Satyagraha is awaiting its August 30 release.
