    President hands out National Award to Kangana Ranaut and Sanchari Vijay

    The President Pranab Mukherjee handed out the National Award for best actor to Sanchari Vijay and the award for best actress to Kangana Ranaut at the 62nd National Film Awards. Both Vijay and Ranaut received the awards for their performances in Nanu Avanalla Avalu and Queen respectively. Queen also won the award for best Hindi film.

    President Pranab Mukherjee also underlined the importance of technology and the changes it has brought into Indian cinema. "With the world's youngest demography and the growing smart phone market, our country is likely to soon embrace a completely digital ecosystem which would help us connect with even larger numbers transcending geographical and cultural barriers”, he said.

    "Digitization and the advent of modern technologies do not mean that we lose touch with the grassroots. Our content has to be our strength as it is entrenched deeply in our vibrant cultural milieu'', he added. Award for the best children's film was shared by Kaakkaa Muttai and Elizabeth Ekadashi, while the award for the best film went to Marathi film Court.
