Qawwali Icon Amjad Farid Sabri Shot Dead; Indo-Pak Celebs Mourn Tragic Loss

The film fraternity seems to be in an absolute shock with the tragic loss of legendary Pakistan Sufi singer, named Amjad Farid Sabri. On Wednesday, Amjad Sabri, famous member of the Sabri brothers clan, was gunned down by two unidentified men. Indo-Pak celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Ali Zafar and Mahira Khan are bereaved by the death of Qawwali icon.

Actress Alia Bhatt told Press Trust of India, "It's very unfortunate, heartbreaking and sad that something like this has happened to an artiste". Mahira Khan seemed to be totally upset with the incident and said, “Sad and shocking.. Huge loss to the nation. Prayers for the Sabri family. Thank you Amjad Sabri ". Sufi maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan tweeted, “Sad loss of #amjadsabri totally speechless. May his soul Rest In peace”. Armaan Malik, one of the young and formidable singing sensations of Bollywood, posted, “Sad 2 hear abt #AmjadSabri sahab's death. Don't know why innocent musicians are being killed, even tho they spread da msg of love & aman!!”.

Other personalities who expressed the grief include Ayushmann Khurrana, Ali Zafar, Sonu Nigam, Richa Chadha, Mawra Hocane and Sona Mohapatra. The incident took place on the busy streets of Liaquatabad town (in Karachi), where the 45-year-old artiste was travelling in his car with his companion and suddenly, their vehicle was obsctructed by two unknown persons, who were on a bike.  Both of them started firing with the gun they had. According to a source, Amjad Sabri was hit by almost five bullets and was immediately rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was declared dead. While, his companion was in serious condition.

Though, the purpose of killing is still not clear, but such an incident has definitely shaken the music and film industry. Desimartini extends most heartfelt sorrow and condolences. May God rest his soul in peace!
