Ranbir is all praise for lyricist Irshad Kamil

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has never shied away from being vocal about praising his contemporaries, or giving due credit to people he believes deserves it - be it an actor, filmmaker, lyricist or musician. During a recent interview, the 32-year-old gave a lot of credit to his act in the much-acclaimed film Rockstar (2012) to the film's lyricist Irshad Kamil, who Ranbir believes has been the true voice behind his character of that of a rebel singer. Rockstar was directed by filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, with whom Ranbir is currently shooting for his next, Tamasha.

"Irshad Bhai has immense contribution to the Hindi film industry, and specially his partnership with Imtiaz. It’s my third film with him, and I think his understanding of lyrics, poetry and certain aspects of human emotions is amazingly perfect," says Ranbir.

"A voice that an actor has in a movie as a character - sometimes you fall short to express certain emotion of that actor through expressions or dialogues. And that’s where Irshad Bhai steps in, and he really fills in that void, that gap and he makes the point across to say what the characters feel… through his poetry. Even though it may be deep and layered, it’s very simple. Especially his work in Rockstar... the lyrics, Jo bhi main kehna chahu barbad karein alfaaz mere… It was such a simple thought but had so many meanings in it," says Ranbir, adding, "So, I am a big fan of Irshad Bhai."
