    Bollywood’s leading actress, Rani Mukerji, is back to movies post a long break from the big screens. Her next film, Mardaani, is an intense cop drama and the actress will be seen in a police avatar for the first time. The first look of this Bollywood drama has been unveiled officially.

    Rani’s character, Shivani Shivaji Roy, is a shrewd cop who is employed with the Mumbai Crime Branch unit. Shivani is skilled to find out hidden clues and brave enough while encountering hardcore underworld figures. In her course of life Shivani gets involved in the world of cruelty and exploitation which gives her a complete life-changing experience. Shivani is assigned to find out a kidnapped teenage girl who is a victim to child trafficking. While resolving this case she gets embroiled in an endless chase with a brutal mafia don.

    Rani’s character is based on a real-life lady cop who has cracked several child trafficking cases in the city. ATS chief Himanshu Roy said, “Rani approached us when she was preparing for her role. She wanted to play it realistically and we have just helped her do that.” Roy also revealed that Rani was quite serious about her research work and she wanted some first-hand experiences of the difficulties faced by the cops in their daily lives. Pradeep Sarkar-directed Mardaani is scheduled to release on August 22. Meanwhile Rani made her first post-marriage public appearance last night during a Diva’ni store launch in Mumbai. She looked stunning in a gorgeous red outfit by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee which was elegantly accessorised by matching platform pumps, sindoor, red bindi and chuda. She was joined by her mother-in-law Pamela Chopra though her husband Aditya Chopra was a no-show at the event.
