Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan have decided to cut off their remuneration. A senior producer, choosing to stay anonymous, told Hindustan Times that the Baby star has reduced the fee for his next and chose to take a certain percentage out of the profits, instead. The producer added that if his film would have never been made if Akshay hadn’t taken the slash. Likewise, Ranveer Singh will also take the share from the profits for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani while his co-stars Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone will get their normal salaries. Saif Ali Khan also chose to cut off for Reema Kagti’s next, after the producers denied for the amount he asked for.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra told Hindustan Times, “Saif and Akshay have reduced their fees. Let’s not call it pay cut. We should call it correction. I’m glad that stars have realised that they were overvaluing themselves, and making their films commercially unviable”.

Sholay director Ramesh Sippy thinks it’s a positive move. He said, “One wonders if Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor will follow suit. Hrithik had charged 30 crore for Bang Bang (2014). Now, he has upped it with Ashutosh Gowarikar’s next, for which he is being paid 50 crore. Ranbir Kapoor charged 32 crore for Bombay Velvet, in addition to his share in profits. Surely, he can’t justify the hefty pay packet considering the film has been a washout. Interestingly, the film’s collections till date approx 25 crore have been lesser than Ranbir’s pay cheque”.
