Konkona Sen Sharma’s directorial debut ‘A Death in the Gunj’ won her a best director award at the New York Indian Film Festival. The movie which boasts an ensemble cast of late actor Om Puri, Vikrant Massey, Kalki Koechlin, Tanuja, Ranvir Shorey and Gulshan Devaiah is slated to release on June 2. However, Ranvir, who plays a local guy from a royal family, said that he did not want to do the film as things were not going good between him and Konkona at that time.

“She had already thought of me for this part but unfortunately things weren't going well between us at the personal level, so I didn't want to be a part of it by the time it was ready to shoot,” said the Bheja Fry actor. Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma married in 2010 but separated in 2015 after an on-off relationship. They finally divorced in 2016.

He further added that it was Konkona who insisted him to do the movie. He could not say no to her as it was her child. When asked from the actor how he prepared for the role he said that he did not worked too hard as he was already aware about the development of each scene.

The movie has been premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival.
