    Rockstar wins six awards at Global Indian Music Awards 2012



    The 3rd edition of Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA), held at Yash Raj Studios here Monday night, was a star-studded affair. Ranbir Kapoor’sRockstarwas the biggest winner at the award ceremony which was hosted by Saif Ali Khan and Parineeti Chopra.

    Rockstarwon six GIMA Awards in the Film category, whereas in the Non-film Category, there was a tie between Alka Yagnik & Babul Supriyo (Mone-Rob) and Sarvani Sen & Kaushiki Desikan (Yatra 2) for the Best Folk Album.While noted musician Dr. L Subramanium was honoured with the Best Carnatic Classical Album Instrumental in the Non Film Category, the special ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was given to Girija Devi and the ‘Global Indian Musician Award’ was bestowed upon music legend Pandit Jasraj.


    Many popular musicians, singers and Bollywood stars like Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Niigaam, Sonkashi Sinha, Mika and Sukhwinder performed on the occasion.To celebrate Oscar winning musician A R Rahman’s 20 years in the industry, Yash Chopra felicitated him and renowned singers like Alka Yagnik, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Naresh Iyer, Mohit Chauhan, Chitra and Sonu Niigaam came together to perform a special act dedicated to the music legend. The singers sang his hit songs likeDil Hai Chota Sa,Tu Hi Re,Chanda Re Chande ReandMitwa.
