Rohit Shetty on box-office numbers: I keep a tab on the money made by other films too

Rohit Shetty, who has helmed three films in the Golmaal franchise, and is gearing for the fourth one, keeps a close tab on the money made by his films and wants maximum number of people to enjoy his work. “It matters to me the most. I want my film to do great business. The box-office numbers reflect this. It’s about how many people have seen the film. Every director wants that his film should be seen by a number of people, as many as they can get,” says Rohit, who has also directed films such Chennai Express (2013) and Dilwale (2015).

Rohit says he feels happy even if another filmmaker’s movie does well, as it benefits the entire industry. “I keep a tab on the money made by other films. Last year, we didn’t have that many big numbers. If a film does well, it does well for the whole industry, that includes me,” he adds.

Meanwhile, talking about his film Dilwale that did fairly well at the box-office, Rohit admits that he changed the story to cater to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s fans. However, he adds that this didn’t really work wonders for him. Initially, Dilwale was to be a three-hero film where Kajol would just have four to five scenes. When asked if there are times when an actor becomes larger than a film, Rohit says that this was not true in this case. “That’s was my decision to change it [the story] and no body else. No one forced or even gave a suggestion. These things happen,” says Rohit, who will be judging stunt based reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi.

The filmmaker says that despite so many films, a new project always makes him nervous. “I get nervous whenever my film is releasing or my show is starting. I think everyone does. No matter how confident you are, it happens,” shares Rohit.
