‘Sairat’ Filmmaker Nagraj Manjule Accused Of Abusing, Harassing Ex-Wife
Nagraj Majule who had received rave reviews and applauds for his latest release ‘ Sairat ’ has been accused of harassing and abusing his ex-wife Sunita. According to an interview, Sunita revealed how the director’s claims of women’s place in society are all fake. She also talked about his brutality when he physically and emotionally abused her.
She said, “I got married to Nagraj Manjule in 1997, when I was barely 18-19 years old. It was an arranged marriage, for our families decided our union. I hail from Chinchwad, Pune, and post marriage, I went on to live with his family in Jeur, Solapur. His family was rather large with his parents, and his brothers and I used to be busy in household work throughout the day”.
She also added that Nagraj was becoming busy in making his career and she was reduced to a nobody for him. Wanting to embrace her motherly nature of nurturing a child, Sunita wanted to have a baby with her husband. But, Nagraj did not agree to this plan and made her go through 2-3 abortions. “This is why he made me go for 2-3 abortions, and whenever I raised my voice for keeping the child, he thrashed me, with his bare hands, leather belt and sometimes, a log of wood”. Written and directed by Nagraj Manjule, ‘Sairat’ became the first Marathi film to cross Rs 55 crores mark.
