Salman Khan not to be tried for rioting in blackbuck shooting case

In a big relief to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, the Supreme Court today ordered that he won’t be tried in 1998 blackbuck hunting case on charges of rioting, rejecting the Rajasthan government’s plea for the same. However, Salman and four other actors, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre, will face trial under the Wildlife Protection Act. The actors were accused of poaching two blackbucks in Jodhpur while shooting for Sooraj Barjatya’s multi-starrer filmHum Saath Saath Hain. Earlier, Rajasthan High Court had also ordered a lower court to withdraw charges of rioting against Salman and four others but the state government then moved the apex court.
