'Jab Harry Met Sejal' Might Be In Trouble

You must have seen the mini trailers of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’. In the second one, which is an almost 40-second clip, the film’s lead actress Anushka Sharma is seen discussing an indemnity bond with the male lead, Shah Rukh Khan. Well, the dialogue doesn’t seem to have gone down well with the Central Board of Film Certification chief, Pahlaj Nihalani.

The contract which Anushka is talking about in the mini trailer says that Shah Rukh will be absolved of all legal charges if any sexual interaction, amounting to or not amounting to full intercourse, happens between him and Anushka. Apparently, Nihalani didn’t like the discussion, as he is considers it to be a vulgar exchange. “We’ve granted a UA certification to the trailer on condition of deletion of the intercourse dialogue. They’re yet to come back to us on that. So in principle, the trailer has not been passed yet”, Nihalani stated, adding that the uncensored trailer having the interaction was not allowed on any medium in India.

Nihalani continued, “They’ve uploaded the uncut trailer on YouTube. The CBFC cannot stop content on the Internet. But we can and will stop the broadcast of the uncensored footage on television. The trailer has been picked up from the web and is being aired on various news channels. This is completely against the law, and we plan to take the strictest action against the channels which have aired the censored content from Imtiaz Ali’s film”.

Seemingly, Nihalani has got varying opinions on different Bollywood films. No wonder why some movies with more vulgar content are released without much fuss. On a related note, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ is scheduled for release on August 4. The Gauri Khan production will have songs composed by Pritam.
