    Shashi Kapoor honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke Award at Mumbai's Prithvi Theatre


    Charismatic actor and one-time heartthrob Shashi Kapoor was presented the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley. The I&B minister called Shashi Kapoor as the most versatile personality of Bollywood and thanked him for his contribution to Indian cinema. The 77-year-old actor was clad in a black outfit and orange shawl.


    The Deewar actor came on the stage on a wheelchair accompanied by his daughter Sanjana Kapoor, but he smiled and folded his hands in reverence after receiving the honour. He is the third member of the popular Kapoor family to be felicitated with this award. Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Karisma , Krishna Raj Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan were present for on the occasion, along with Amitabh Bachchan , Abhishek Bachchan,Shabana Azmi, Shyam Benegal, Ramesh Sippy, Waheeda Rehman, Raj Babbar, Zeenat Aman, Shabana Azmi and Asha Bhosle.


    Due to Shashi’s ill health, he could not travel to Delhi for the award ceremony on May 3. So,  Arun Jaitley flew in Mumbai to confer the award to him. Shashi Kapoor's many cinematic successes include Kabhi Kabhie, Namak Halaal, Sharmilee, Junoon and New Delhi Times, as well as Merchant-Ivory films like The Householder, Heat and Dust and In Custody.
