Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra slap Rs 100 crore defamation case against textile owner

Actor Shilpa Shetty and her businessman husband Raj Kundra have filed a defamation case against Ravi Mohanlal Bhalotia, the textile unit owner who has accused the couple of duping them of Rs 24 lakh. Now, Kundra has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court and slapped Bhalotia with a defamation case. Reportedly, Bhalotia called the celebrity couple a cheat and maligned their reputation.

Big Deals, a firm owned by Shilpa and Raj, had got into a partnership with Bhalotia’s firm for selling bedsheets. “Raj and Shilpa have slapped a defamation notice for Rs.100 crore on Ravi Mohanlal Bhalotia. A quashing petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court, as they have tight contracts signed and have been responsibly following the laws of the land,” Kundra’s spokesperson said.

Bhalotia had filed an FIR on April 27, 2017, at the Bhiwandi police station against the couple under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of IPC. He had earlier said, “They bought bedsheets worth Rs 1.5 crore from me in 2015. I handed over the items to them, for which they paid Rs 1.44 crore in January 2016. When I approached them [for the pending payment], they made several false promises, and convinced me to give them another consignment of bedsheets worth Rs 18 lakh in July 2016, but they never paid me for it.”
