Sonu Nigam shaves head, but Bengal cleric says he won't get Rs 10 lakh. Here's ...

Sonu Nigam may have shaved his head, but he is not getting the Rs 10 lakh promised to him by West Bengal cleric Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi.

So the fight between the Bollywood singer and Quaderi continues.

Earlier in the day, Nigam asked Quaderi to fulfil his promise of paying Rs 10 lakh to the person who would shave his head.

Quaderi is now saying that Nigam has fulfilled just one of his three conditions. ANI quoted him as saying: “Sonu Nigam has not done all the things I asked for, two out of the three things remain unfulfilled.”

He also said: “Will give reward of Rs 10 lakh, only when he does rest two-garland of old torn shoes and tour around the country.”

This war of words started on Monday when Nigam put out a tweet saying, “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.”

To this, the Kolkata-based cleric announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh to anybody who can tonsure Nigam and garland him with old shoes.

Nigam accepted the challenge and tweeted, “Today at 2pm, Aalim will come to my place and shave my head. Keep your 10 lakhs ready Maulvi.”

Nigam said in a press conference he raised a social topic and not a religious one when he tweeted about being woken up by the sound of azaan, the Muslim call to prayers, and apologised “if someone thought otherwise”.

“I am a secular person. It was not about azaan, it was about the loud sound. Playing loud sound on a speaker is gundagardi for me,” Nigam told reporters.

“What is happening to the country? Anyone can lynch anyone or anyone can issue a fatwa. I’m not talking about any single religion,” he added.

The singer said he also wrote about temples and gurudwara which no one seemed to notice.
