Actor Suyyash Rai, who shot to fame after being part of reality TV shows such as Roadies, Splitsvilla and Bigg Boss, went on to star in daily soaps. He’s currently a part of TV show, Pehredaar Piya Ki, which is grabbing eyeballs for all the wrong reasons.

A weird love story between a nine-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl, the show has been receiving flak from viewers ever since its promos were aired. Recently, a viewer filed a petition on change.org asking the Information & Broadcasting ministry to ban the show.

Suyyash aka Abhay (in the show) — who was to marry the girl initially — has not been shooting of late. He says negative feedback affects the team [and its morale]. “I am supposed to re-enter the show in a negative role... It’s disturbing to hear all that people have to say against the show. It upsets the cast and makers because when you are making a show, it’s like your baby,” says Suyyash.

The actor adds that the audience is quick to judge, and requests them to show some trust because if a reputed channel has approved the show, they must be aware of pros and cons.

Defending the plot of the show, Suyyash adds, “Most young boys have a crush on one of their school teachers but that’s not creepy. It’s just about the person you adore and you start liking, so it’s genuine. I don’t know what the audience is thinking.”

Talking about the much talked about suhaag raat scene, which apparently has triggered this petition, Suyyash clarifies, “I don’t think they’ve shown anything explicit in that scene. The lead pair is shown playing some game to portray the bonding they share. I can’t understand why people are overreacting.”

Asked about the recent reference to a honeymoon that the couple might leave for, Suyyash retorts, “No, it’s not there. As soon as I read online about a honeymoon sequence, I spoke to the producer. He said nothing of this sort is happening.”
