    Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan to be honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at Mumbai Film Festival

    It has been announced that the superstar down South, Kamal Haasan, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th Mumbai Film Festival which will commence from October 17.

    The festival, organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI), will give away this award to the actor-filmmaker for his enormous contribution to the cinema industry. Chairman of MAMI, filmmaker Shyam Benegal said, "This year we have decided to present lifetime achievement award to Kamal Haasan and famed French filmmaker Costa Gavras for their extraordinary work in the field of cinema.” Special tributes will also be paid to late film directors Yash Chopra and Rituparno Ghosh and also late actor Pran.

    The fest, which will continue for one week, will screen 200 films from over 65 countries. The festival will especially celebrate Spanish cinema and focus on Cambodian cinema along with French and Afghan cinema. Benegal said, "The festival has grown tremendously. The festival has been proving its mettle and has grown from strength to strength. But each year is a challenge to bring quality of films. Having said that its going to be a treat for film lovers.” A Reliance Entertainment initiative, the Mumbai Film Festival, will take place at Liberty Cinemas in Marine Lines and Metro Big Cinema in Marine Lines. The international jury members includefilmmaker Bruce Beresford, French actress Nathalie Baye, Japanese filmmaker Masato Harada, actress Konkana Sen Sharma and director Deepa Mehta.
