Teachers always asked me to tell jokes in class, says Johnny Lever's daughter J...

For Comedian Jamie Lever, being veteran comedian Johnny Lever’s daughter meant growing up to be an entertainer. Even her teachers and classmates were convinced that she would make a name for herself like her father.

Recalling one such incident, Jamie says, “My teachers would tell others kids to recite poetry, and mujhe bolte the joke sunao. People would assume that I will become an actor.”

Jamie, who will soon host a singing reality show Sabse Bade Kalakar, adds that people even questioned why she was studying!

“When I was in school, people asked why I was being put in academic and that I should be put in the annual day functions and extra curricular activities. Teachers had taken this for granted that I would be a good actor so they were like ‘put her is performance arts’. They always encouraged me to do well in that field,” she says.

However, back home, it wasn’t the same space.

“My parents valued my education and wanted me to complete my degree. They never encouraged me towards entertainment. While growing up, I participated in drama and comedy competitions and won awards, but it was a secondary thing. We are a typical South Indian family, and when I took arts instead of science, my relatives were disappointed. But, I had to own up and told everyone that comedy was my passion,” she says.
