‘There Was A Possibility Of Me Being Mastani’: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan About Bajirao Mastani

‘There Was A Possibility Of Me Being Mastani’: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan About Bajirao Mastani

Back in 2003, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Salman Khan in his proposed film Bajirao Mastani, the filmmaker failed at his attempt due to their highly publicised break-up. He, then, decided to rope in Kareena Kapoor but even that couldn’t happen as she was busy with other projects. Bhansali stalled the project and kick-started Black in 2005. Year passed and his dream project remained at halt until 2014, when he casted Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in the flick. Aishwarya Rai has finally spilled the beans on what resisted her to take up the film.

The Jazbaa actress told Pinkvilla, “We have obviously discussed it, even before the start of the movie, there was a certain casting he was looking at and if that was to come to be...as everybody knows that there was a possibility of me being ‘Mastani’ if there was a certain ‘Bajirao’ that he was trying to cast but if that didn’t come to be... and he had openly talked about it. We both knew what the casting would be”.

Talking about Bhansali, the actress said, “Sanjay and me will always smile with each other.  In between also he has met me a couple of times this year and I keep teasing him that, ‘So you have got your fix? And he would laugh and say, ‘Ya’”. Aishwarya ended up by saying, “It is natural, it is nothing to fret about and think over. Every film lives its own destiny and finds its reality the way it is meant to be”.
