Toilet Ek Prem Katha: 5 disgustingly hilarious toilet scenes Akshay Kumar is up against

As Akshay Kumar gears up for the release of another round of socially-driven movies, Toilet - Ek Prem Katha, let’s take a look at some memorable scenes from movies set in or around loos.

While Toilet... is as message-driven as they come, there’s sure to be some humour set around its premise: When the wife of a man whose home has no working bathroom leaves him, it inspires him to install toilets in his village. We’ve already seen hints of potty humour in the film’s trailer, mostly around Sudhir Pandey’s character.

Here are five scenes that, if anything, highlight the importance of having working toilets everywhere.

American Pie - Finch vs Stifler

This scene’s as lowbrow as they get. Finch hates using public restrooms. When word of this gets to class clown/school bully Stifler, he slips laxatives into Finch’s drink, which leads to a series of embarrassing events.

    Bridesmaids - Wedding dress shopping

When the ladies visit a fancy shop to get fitted for an upcoming wedding, they realise that there was something wrong with their lunch. This scene is toilet humour ramped up to dangerously crazy heights. As each of them feels the sickness coming on, they use whatever receptacle that is available. There is poop everywhere, most memorably, in the bathroom sink.

Jackass 3D - The Poo Cocktail Supreme

If the Bridesmaids scene was too over-the-top, wait till you see this one. Depending on your worldview, this could be seen as the lowest depths of entertainment, or pure genius. Daredevil Steve-O is made to sit inside a portable loo, which is attached to bungee cords. The loo, with Steve-O in it, is then launched hundreds of feet into the air. Basically it becomes a flying capsule of poop and vomit. It might be the most inventive use of 3D ever.

    Trainspotting - Rent Boy tripping

The graphic detail of this scene is sure to shock first time viewers. As Mark Renton, tripping out on drugs, visits a public restroom, he hallucinates about falling inside the toilet. Not only are the gross out visuals extremely effective, the sound design, as Renton first dips his hand into the sludge, and then feels around the bottom, is all brilliantly done.

Slumdog Millionaire - What Akshay Kumar wants to eradicate

Director Danny Boyle sure has a fascination with toilets. This scene, in his Oscar winner from 2008, is a comical take on a very real situation. Public restrooms are rare in rural India, but the ones that do exist often resemble this one. They’re out in the open, and a breeding ground for all sorts of diseases.
