Too early for an MS Dhoni biopic?

Too early for an MS Dhoni biopic?

Alright, the social media is already flooded with jokes, news, speculations over the first look of the MS Dhoni biopic and that does reflect the anxiety viewers have in minds considering the fact it is a popular national hero that we’re talking about here. Out of hundreds of opinions and assumptions, one simple theory that would certainly cross a lot of minds would be ‘isn’t it too early for a biopic to be made on Dhoni’?

The first look is stirring, and with an actor like Sushant Singh Rajput working under the direction of talented Neeraj Pandey could be even more thrilling but to digest the timing of the enterprise would be a factor. This is not a thought that comes in terms of keeping the viewers in prospect, it will also put the man in question himself. MS Dhoni is probably enjoying the time of his life right now and he has a lot to look forward to in the days to come. With World Cup just round the corner and a good measure of cricket left in him, will it be in anyway vigorous for him to have a massy Hindi movie made on his name and with his story? Every time he’d come out to play on field the fans would look at him with a different perspective. Good or bad, we don’t know. Of course he’s had his share of struggle, he’s made his way over to the top with hard work and skills but the cinematic constraints are too heavy for anyone to just handle.

Too early for an MS Dhoni biopic?

The PR and marketing team of the movie may be eyeing this as the best time for their release. What could be better for a producer to have his film released at a time when the man himself is a present national hero with tremendous amount of support behind him. May be the biopic could have had a lot more to offer if it was planned 7 years down the line. Dhoni’s achievements, post retirement plans, other initiatives could have been brought on screen with a brighter picture and much more to offer.

The poster of the film speaks about the untold story of the cricketer. It was in the days of Milkha Singh that one needed to watch a movie to learn facts about a hero to be honest. Do we need a film to convey us what Mahendra Singh Dhoni went through in life to reach here and emerge from the ashes? Would a biopic make a difference to people who are untouched with Dhoni’s popularity and emotive craze? It simply cannot because to expect a biopic to reach out to places where cricket hasn’t expanded is plain rhetoric. There was also a news of a biopic being planned on cricketer Yuvraj Singh with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead, but that’s not part of the agenda.

Having said that, a ‘biopic’ in any which way is a step welcome in the cinematic arena. May be we’re being a little inspired from Hollywood where the trend of planning biopic on present heroes has been into existence for a long time. Why do we have to wait for 30 years to know what Milkha Singh went through? Did we have to wait for Mary Kom to turn her hair grey before a biopic could be planned? Of course not! But what we’re speaking here is something different. It’s ‘Cricket’, it’s a ‘Hero’ and to have a story being projected on screen while he playing on the field is an outlook that is not easily digestible. We wish the makers good luck and do not doubt their ability at all but let’s face it, to handle pressure, money, fame, fitness, expectations and ‘Showbiz’ all at the same time could possibly be a struggle ‘Captain Cool’ may find tough to cope up with. May be he has a hidden trump card under his sleeve for this too.
