Vartak Nagar - being helmed by debutant director Atul Taishete - reveals how the friendships that emerge under any extreme circumstances can definitely stand the test of time. "Vartak Nagar is a bold attempt at recreating the Bombay of the 80s while attempting to capture a beautiful almost poetic drama of a coming of age friendship film against the backdrop of tracing the history of how the industrial town of Mumbai became the commercial hub called Bombay," said director Atul Taishete. The movie, which has been produced by Adarsh Telemedia, Dione Entertainment and Kunal Kohli Productions, stars Jimmy Shergill and Raghu Ram in the lead roles.

"It is a multi-layered story of four teenage friends, which take us through the fun filled nostalgic journey of the coming of age friendship of Gajya, Satya, Raju and Savio - their glorious school days, their eccentric teachers and their innocent pranks. It is one of those rare films, which has the potential to be a huge commercial hit, garner critical acclaim and also perform well internationally. I had absolutely no hesitation in backing the film," said Amit Agarwal from Adarsh Telemedia.

The flick also explores how a seemingly small event escalated into the longest running strike in the history of Mumbai that saw textile mills giving way to malls two decades later. “We were hunting for a film that mixed content with entertainment, and as a story, one which had a unique universal appeal”, Agarwal said. Talking about his future ventures, the producer added “What we can promise is that each one of our future projects will be as content driven, as exciting and will be as universally appealing as 'Vartak Nagar".
