    Veteran Bollywood actress Zohra Sehgal passes away at 102

    The Doyenne of Bollywood, Zohra Sehgal died on Thursday at a hospital in Delhi. The 102-year-old diva started her career with Uday Shankar’s troupe in 1935 and is known for her jovial performances in films like Dil Se, Saawariya, Cheeni Kum and many more.

    She was admitted to the Max Hospital in South Delhi after being diagnosed with pneumonia on 9th July and passed away at around 4:30 p.m. after suffering cardiac arrest. Her granddaughter expressed her emotions over phone to a leading national daily, “Zohraji was uneasy and complained of pain in the heart region, so we admitted her to Max Hospital on Wednesday night," she further added, “Medical tests showed an irregular heartbeat and traces of pneumonia as well. On Thursday though, she ate breakfast and lunch, so we thought she was headed for recovery. But she suffered a cardiac arrest around 4.30pm and passed away." The megastar of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter to express his feelings and said, “Zohra Sehgal passes away at 102 yrs.. what a journey and what an immensely loveable co-star! Prayers for her blessed soul!!.” Even our newly formed Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on the social networking site by saying, “Prolific & full of life, Zohra Sehgal made a mark through her acting, which is admired across generations. Saddened on her demise.” By posting a 1940’s vintage picture Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar shared his feelings on the demise of the veteran actress.

    Zohra Sehgal has won many awards in her career, few among them were Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri, Kallidas Samman, Padma Bhusham and was also glorified with the Padma Vibhushan in 2010.
