Vidya Balan: ‘I was labelled jinxed’

Vidya Balan, the Padma Shri Award recipient, has recently disclosed that she was considered a jinx during the starting days of her career as her projects were getting shelved. At the ongoing Women Economic Forum, The Dirty Picture star said, “My family went with the perception of Cinema of being big bad world. I told my parents that I will do one film and I will quit. I got signed for Malayalam film which was shelved. Later there were about three films that I was part of which were shelved. I was labelled jinxed. I was thrown out of the film because of that".

While the actress was shooting a song for Euphoria (band), she was approached by Pradeep Sarkar for his directorial debut Parineeta. This 2005-hit film opposite Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt pulled the Hum Paanch girl out of the rough phase and gave her career a boost. “Parineeta convinced me. For someone who wanted one complete film, it was a big deal", the 37-year-old actress said.

She is remembered for her performances in Paa, Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica and Kahaani. The actress will be next seen in the Mohit Suri directorial, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, opposite Emraan Hashmi. This Mahesh Bhatt production is slated to hit the theatres on June 12.
