The grapevine has it that Vidya Balan was approached by Nishikant Kamath to play the lead role in the Hindi remake of Drishyam. But the actress rejected the offer citing reasons that the role was not strong enough and didn't have much importance in the movie. The director then convinced Shriya Saran to play the lead role alongside Ajay Devgn.

The Singham star will be seen reprising the role of Georgekutty in the Hindi remake of much acclaimed Malayalam film Drishyam. Earlier, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar were being approached for the lead role. The Hindi remake will feature the Zila Ghaziabad star in the role of Devgn’s wife, while Haidar and Maqbool actress Tabu will also be seen in the film.

The flick - slated for release in October - is being produced by Kumar Mangath and Abhishek Pathak under the banner of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The film focuses on a man who tries to protect his wife and children from a crime committed by them in self-defense. Meanwhile, Vidya Balan will be seen in Mohit Suri’s 'Humari Adhuri Kahaani' opposite Emraan Hashmi.
