    Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Invites New Members

    Young actors Eddie Redmayne, Emma Stone and Dev Patel were invited to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2014 the academy added 271 people to its roster. This year, more than 300 invitations were sent out.

    Eddie Redmayne, who played the role of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, won best actor this year. Emma Stone was nominated for best supporting actress for Birdman. Slumdog Millionaire starrer Dev Patel was also among the recipients of the invite. The movie won eight Oscars in 2009. Hip Hop artist Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr., popularly known as Common, got the award for best original song for Selma.

    Ace Showbiz reported that the list includes Oscar winners, nominees and notable personalities. Among the 300 plus invitees were Elizabeth Banks, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Tom Hardy, Kevin Hart, Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike, Chris Pine, Daniel Radcliffe, Jason Segel and J. K. Simmons. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, Fast and Furious 6 director Justin Lin and The World’s End director Edgar Wright were also invited.
