After Earth unlikely to excel over Fast and Furious 6 this weekend

The weekend ahead doesn’t look quite big for M. Night Shyamalan even with Will Smith in his casting couch for After Earth. As per the predictions, the movie will make merely $35 million to $40 million in first three days, while Universal’s Fast and Furious 6 is expected to earn around $50 million this weekend.

Over the last Memorial Day weekend Fast and Furious 6 has grossed $117 million in four days while its competitor The Hangover Part III could not make it big at the box-office with a collection of meagre $50 million. Till date, Fast and Furious 6 has already pocketed $130 million in the domestic front through Wednesday and Hangover Part III is nearing a $70 million collection.

After Earth unlikely to excel over Fast and Furious 6 this weekend

With only $35 million to $40 million opening predictions for After Earth, Will Smith would see it as disappointing and even his kid Jaden whose The Karate Kid earned $55 million in its opening weekend. In the international forum only South Asia will see its release this week while other countries will open the flick next weekend. Apart from Fast and Furious 6 and Hangover’s third installment, there are still Epic, Star Trek Into Darkness and The Great Gatsby going strong which would really give the latest openers a tough time.
