After five years of rising to fame with album ‘Back to Black’, Amy Winehouse, in 2011, died of alcohol poisoning. A documentary has already been made on the British singer-song writer and has made several sob, including Justin Bieber. Now, a biopic film on the life of the singer, who struggled with substance abuse problems, is in making and Noomi Rapace, best known for her role in Prometheus, is under negotiations to play the lead role.

Kirsten Sheridan, writer-director of the biographical film, talked about the first British female to have won five Grammys, and said, “Amy’s music is felt so deeply by the audience because it was deeply personal. Her vulnerability was her strength. She was called many things — a diva, a lost soul preyed upon by tabloids, a tortured genius; our aim is an innovative, emotional and life-affirming approach as we go through the looking glass into her life and art”.

Lotus Entertainment will be financing, producing and handling the international sales at American film. The film will be co-produced by Justin Maurer and Alixandre Witlin. Jim Seibel, Bill Johnson, Ara Keshishian and Angus Sutherland are on board as executive producers for the film, which is to be based on the singer known for her deep vocals and eclectic mix of musical genres.
