Unbroken, adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's book with the same name had caught the eye of Angelina Jolie last year and she was on a look out for writers so as to be rewritten and direct it herself. For the project, 37-year-old Jolie has zeroed on Joel and Ethan Coen to do the honours.

The earlier draft was written by William Nicholson and Richard LaGravenese which will now be drafted by the Coen’s from scratch.Unbroken,co-produced and co-financed by Walden media and Universal, etches the implausible story of Louis Zamperini, the former Olympic distance runner and war hero who along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII. He was trapped by the Japanese Navy and was a prisoner at a war camp.

The Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Angelina had shared her plans to direct the film so as to cash on the appreciation the book had received as it was also the winner of the Los Angeles Times Book of the Year Award for Nonfiction. The search is finally over for her as the Coens are among the top screenwriters in town and been nominated five times for Academy Awards in the writing category, winning forNo Country for Old MenandFargo.
