    Actress, producer and singer Bette Midler is roped in to portray singer, playwright, screenwriter and sex symbol of Hollywood industry Mae West in upcoming HBO Films on the life of Mae. Midler is also exclusively producing the flick with Jerry Weintraub, who earlier produced ventures for HBO like Behind the Candelabra and William Friedkin, who is giving direction to the movie.

    Mae first performed in Broadway stage in 1911 and later stepped in Hollywood with Night After Night in 1932. Her last flick was in 1978 Sextette where she played Lady Barrington. The actress also reached Academy Awards but failed to achieve one. Kinky Boots’ writer Harvey Fierstein will write the script for West’s biopic. The Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmy Awards and a special Tony Award winner Bette Midler has given tremendous contributions in Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Big Business, For the Boys and many more. Her latest film release was Parental Guidance last year.
