    ‘Big Hero 6’ wins Oscar for best animated feature film

    Walt Disney Pictures’s 3D computer-animated superhero action comedy ‘Big Hero 6’ won the Oscar award for best animated feature film on Sunday night at the 87th annual Academy Awards Ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

    The four other animated films nominated for the award were ‘The Boxtrolls,’ ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2,’ ‘Song of the Sea’ and ‘The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.’ The directors of Big Hero 6, Don Hall and Chris Williams, also worked together on The Emperor's New Groove. It's the first Oscar nomination for Hall. Williams was nominated for the 2008 animated film Bolt. It cost $165 million to make Big Hero 6. As of February 18, 2015, it had reportedly grossed $219 million. Worldwide, it is the 31st highest-grossing animated film of all time and the second highest-grossing animated film of 2014, behind ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2,’ according to media reports.

    Winner for best supporting actor was J.K. Simmons in ‘Whiplash.’ Winner for costume design was Milena Canonero for ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’ It's her fourth Oscar. The award for makeup also went to ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’ Poland's ‘Ida’ won Oscar for foreign language film. Mat Kirkby and James Lucas won for best short film, live action, for ‘The Phone Call.’ Documentary short subject winner is ‘Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1.’ One of the winners dedicated it to her son, who killed himself: 'We should talk about suicide out loud,’ she said. Sound mixing winner was ‘Whiplash.’ Sound editing winner was ‘American Sniper.’ Best supporting actress is Patricia Arquette for ‘Boyhood.’ She put on glasses and got bleeped as she started her speech, which ended with a plea for wage equality for women in America. Winner for visual effects went to ‘Interstellar.’

    Oscar for production design went to ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’ The Oscar for cinematography went to Emmanuel Lubezki for ‘Birdman.’ Lubezki won the cinematography Oscar last year, too. The film-editing Oscar went to ‘Whiplash.’ Documentary feature winner is ‘Citizenfour.’ ‘Glory’ by Common and John Legend, from the movie ‘Selma,’ won best song.

    Winner for original score was Alexandre Desplat, ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’ Oscar for original screenplay went to ‘Birdman.’ Adapted screenplay winner was ‘The Imitation Game.’ Taking home the best director Oscar is Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for ‘Birdman.’ Best actor winner is Eddie Redmayne for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything.’ Best actress is Julianne Moore for her portrayal of a woman with early onset Alzheimer's disease in ‘Still Alice.’ And the best picture winner is ‘Birdman.’
