Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

Casting director Jeff Greenberg recently revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), that Hollywood actor Brad Pitt unsuccessfully auditioned for the popular comedy show of the eighties, ‘Cheers’. Back in the eighties, when Pitt had just started his acting career, he had auditioned for a guest role in the show, but Greenberg thought he wasn’t funny enough, and his only note for him was ‘Not Funny’.

Greenberg is the man behind casting actors in popular TV shows such as Modern Family, Cheers, Wings and Ugly Betty.

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

However, Pitt is not the only famous actor who auditioned for a role and did not get the part. Here’s a list of other popular actors who also shared the same fate.

KURT RUSSELL AS HAN SOLO IN STAR WARS:

Imagine actor Kurt Russell as the rebellious Han Solo in the epic Star Wars saga. The actor had auditioned for the role. His audition went well, but director George Lucas had his heart set on Harrison Ford for the role of Han Solo. And, the rest as you know it, is history.

JEREMY SISTO AS JACK IN TITANIC:

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

We can’t think of anyone but Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Jack in Titanic. However, it was actor Jeremy Sisto who had initially auditioned and almost landed the part. However, Kate Winslet interfered and was hell-bent on DiCaprio for the role. She made sure that director James Cameron finally chose DiCaprio.

SEAN CONNERY AS GANDALF IN LORD OF THE RINGS AND MORPHEUS IN THE MATRIX:

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

You’ve got to feel for legendary actor Sean Connery when you get to know that he auditioned for not one, but two iconic roles and lost out on both. The actor had auditioned for the role of Gandalf in Lord of the Rings Trilogy and for Morpheus in The Matrix; sadly he couldn’t bag both. Sir Ian McKellen was cast as Gandalf and Laurence Fishburne eventually became Morpheus. Let that sink in.

TOM CRUISE AS TONY STARK IN IRON MAN:

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

Tom Cruise as Iron Man and not Robert Downey Jr.? Sounds mind boggling. Producer Kevin Feige almost came close to casting Tom Cruise for the role of Iron Man. He changed his mind last minute and settled on Downey, who he thought would be perfect for the role with his witty sense of humour.

RUSSELL CROWE AS WOLVERINE IN X-MEN:

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

Comic book fans cannot imagine anyone else play the iconic role of Wolverine, except actor Hugh Jackman. However, it could have been a different story if director Bryan Singer had decided on actor Russell Crowe. So what got Singer to turn him down? Apparently he wasn’t funny enough.l

JOSH HARTNETT AS LOKI IN THOR:

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

Tom Hiddleston’s breakout role was playing Thor’s brother Loki in Thor. However, it could have all been different if Josh Hartnett had got the role. Hiddleston got the role last minute when the casting director thought that his British sense of humour and comedic timing would add more to the role.

JIM CARREY AS CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW IN PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:

Brad Pitt isn’t the only A-lister who auditioned and failed to bag a famous role!

Fans still debate how Pirates of the Caribbean would have turned out if Jim Carrey had played the role of Captain Jack Sparrow (instead of the eccentric Johnny Depp). Producers of the movie wanted Carrey for the role, but after watching his audition, they thought that he was hyperactive and not just as suave as they wanted. The role finally went to Johnny Depp.
