“Bridget Is Perfectly Normal Weight”, Says Renée Zellweger On Scrutiny Over Weight Gain

American actress-producer Renée Zellweger, who had been on a 6-year hiatus from Hollywood, is all geared up to make her return to the big screen with a British romantic comedy, Bridget Jones’s Baby. In order to fit to her character in the third instalment of the Bridget Jones franchise, the My One and Only star had to gain weight. Recently in an interview, the My Own Love Song actress confessed that she is baffled by people’s reaction to her weight gain.

“I put on a few pounds. I also put on some breasts and a baby bump. Bridget is a perfectly normal weight and I’ve never understood why it matters so much”, the 47-year-old actress told Vogue U.K., adding, “No male actor would get such scrutiny if he did the same thing for a role”.

Disclosing the reason for not making a presence on the big screen for so long, Zellweger stated, “As a creative person, saying no to that wonderful once-in-a-lifetime project is hard. But I was fatigued and wasn’t taking the time I needed to recover between projects, and it caught up with me. I got sick of the sound of my own voice. It was time to go away and grow up a bit”.
