The official announcement has been done on Tuesday by Disney and Lucasfilm, putting an end to months-old speculations regarding the casting of the film. Earlier it was reported that Driver would be seen as the villain and Boyega was shortlisted for the male lead. J.J. Abrams, who will be directing the new film, said, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again.” “We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud,” he added further.
Though further details about the characters have not been revealed yet, sources have confirmed that Driver will be enacting a main villainous character like Darth Vader, Isaac’s character will be similar to Han Solo and Boyega’s role will be like Jedi. Ridley’s character cannot be speculated though, but if we refer to sources we already know that children of Solo and Princess Leia will have pivotal roles in the film. Ridley is expected to play their daughter. Recently Disney chief Bob Iger said this fresh addition to the franchise will take place after 30 years from where 1983’s Return of the Jedi finished. Hence both new as well as familiar faces are required for this instalment. Episode VII is due to hit the cinemas on December 18, 2015.
