    After 20 years of immense contribution to the history of cinema as an extraordinary actress, the Golden Globe winner Cate Blanchett is all set to shift her focus to direction soon. She will mark her debut as a director with the big screen adaptation of Herman Koch’s novel The Dinner.

    The adaptation is being done by The Messenger scriptwriter Oren Moverman. The Dinner is a psychological thriller which portrays how far some parents can go for their kids’ protection. The novel was first published in Amsterdam in 2009 and then it reached the New York Times Bestseller list. It also got translated into a dozen languages. The project will be produced by Cotty Chubb under his ChubbCo banner.

    Eva Maria Daniels and Olga Segura will be on the board as the executive producers. It’s still uncertain if director Blanchett will also feature in the film as an actor. Blanchett is presently eyeing the Oscar race quite excitedly for her brilliant job in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. In the process to become a skilled director she has been spending the last five years as the co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company along with her husband, playwright Andrew Upton. She has directed stage shows like David Harrower’s Blackbird and Joan Didion’s memoir The Year of Magical Thinking.
