China Censorship Board Cuts Michael Fassbender's Gay Kiss In ‘Alien: Covenant’

Director Ridley Scott’s recently released movie ‘Alien: Covenant’ was a box office hit with critics lauding actor Michael Fassbender's performance. However, there were certain scenes in this sci-fi horror film which did not go down well with China's censorship board. The China censorship board did not approve of the actor’s gay kiss and therefore decided to chop off the scene.

The China censorship board has deleted a six minute video footage from the video that showed violence and bloodshed. The violence scene in the movie takes place in the second half between two cyborgs, Walter and David, which are played by Fassbender. The kiss cut in the film surprised people more than the various cuts of violence.

"For the other missing parts, you don't notice or know when it happens, but you can really feel something is missing where the gay kiss is supposed to be,” said Yu, a 26-year-old assistant at an advertising agency in Shanghai. This is not the first time that the China board deleted so many scenes. They also cut 14 minutes footage from 'Logan' and eight minutes from 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter'.
