Paramount Pictures revealed on Monday that the upcoming follow-up of Star Trek, which does not yet have a director, will feature Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, Captain James T. Kirk’s father. The 32-year-old actor will cross paths with his on-screen son Chris Pine in the next instalment of the space adventure. The news was first reported over the weekend.

According to a press release from Paramount, the film will see the two crossing paths though its unclear how this will be achieved; the first Star Trek reboot directed by J.J. Abrams saw George Kirk die in the movie’s opening minutes. Presumably, this will require some form of time travel, but fortunately, the "Star Trek" universe is full of wormholes for just such a thing.

Star Trek, the first film in the rebooted franchise based on Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry, earned more than $380 million worldwide in 2009. The second installment, Star Trek Into Darkness, earned more than $460 million worldwide when it opened in May 2013. The series’ third film, Star Trek Beyond, is directed by Justin Lin and opens in theaters on July 22.

Although a director has not been chosen, Paramount said J.R. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the movie’s script, with J.J. Abrams set to produce. Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22, 2016. The Thor star went on to appear in a sequel plus two Avengers movies, and he'll likely have appeared in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok (and possibly 2018's next Avengers) before the follow-up of Star Trek.
