Following the box office accomplishment of Deadpool, fans have already been expecting the return of the Merc with a Mouth to the big screen. Simon Kinberg confirms that the sequel to the character’s 2016 film is currently in development. Writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who wrote the original film, are currently at work on a script, and the creative team hopes to begin shooting at the beginning of next year.

"The guys, [Paul] Wernick and [Rhett] Reese, are working on the script, and we hope to have a script very soon," producer Simon Kinberg told Collider. "We hope to shoot the movie sometime at the beginning of next year." According to EW, Stephen Lang has also shared his openness to being casted as the "Deadpool 2" Cable actor. The "Avatar" and "Conan the Barbarian" star took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the character. "Let's lay some CABLE," he wrote in a post last February. "You know I want it. This is pre-training. Thanks for spreading the word."

Newsarama added that Fox is intent on trying to keep future "X-Men" movie plans more confidential, such as the 2017 "Wolverine 3" movie. "We want it to be discovered the way that we used to watch movies a long time ago when you didn't know everything about them before you went to go see them," Kinberg said.

It is too early for the film to have a release date, but according to Entertainment Weekly, 20th Century Fox has reserved two dates in 2018. Both Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller are set to return.
