The box-office is going to face a tough combat between two contenders this week, Universal's Despicable Me 2 and Disney's The Lone Ranger. Over the long holiday period of Independence Day, it has been predicted that Despicable 2's minions will be taking charge over Johnny Depp’s The Lone Ranger.

As the pre-release statements reveal, Despicable 2 would reach the $110 million by Sunday, after struggling with the big-budget project by Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. The Lone Ranger is aiming to create a new live-action franchise for Disney targeting families including teens and adults. The expected opening of the film is $70 million, which means it will need strong support from domestic as well as international box-offices for a long run. The star factor of Depp matters the most for Disney this time.
