Among these five toppers, Scorsese and Greengrass have huge potential to land in the Oscar race too but if 2014 is going to follow the pattern of 2013 then we are left with no option than expecting the most unexpected once again. Keeping aside the speculations about Oscar nominations till January 16, for the time being we can definitely say cheers for Scorsese who made it to the final stage, though The Wolf of Wall Street received critical response worldwide.

12 Years a Slave helmer Steve McQueen has received his maiden Directors Guild nomination and he is also an undisputed top contender at the Academy Awards chase. If McQueen emerges as the winner of DGA this year, he will be the first black filmmaker to achieve the huge momentum in the film fraternity. McQueen said in a statement, ''To be included in such an amazing group of filmmakers and also to be honored by my peers makes me feel very humble and proud.” The 66th annual Directors Guild Awards’ winners will be announced on January 25 at a gala dinner event.
