Disco band Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb dies of cancer

Stayin' Alive hitmaker Robin Gibb, who had been fighting with cancer and intestinal problems since 2010, died in the city last night at the age of 62. Gibb, a member of world famous disco band Bee Gees which he co-founded with his brothers Maurice and Barry, is survived by his sons Robin-John and Spencer, daughter Melissa and wife Dwina. The news was given by the family of the singer in a press statement, which said, "The family of RobinGibb, of the Bee Gees, announces with great sadness that Robin passed away following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family has asked that their privacy is respectedat this very difficult time". During intestinal surgery in August 2010, the singer was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer and since then he was battling with the disease. In 2003, his twin brother Maurice had also died due to a blocked intestine. During his six decades musical career, Robins band sold more than 200 million records and made disco a worldwide phenomenon with chartbusters like How Deep Is Your Love, Stayin' Alive and Tragedy.
