Divergent’s sequel Insurgent to be helmed by Robert Schwentke
The sequel to Divergent, titled Insurgent, will be reportedly helmed by R.I.P.D. director Robert Schwentke. Schwentke is a popular name in Hollywood due to his films including Flightplan, The Time Traveler's Wife and Red.
Insurgent will resume Tris Prior’s (Shailene Woodley) journey as war looms large ahead. In the coming days, preferences need to be decided, secrets will come out and several untold truths will be unveiled. Tris needs to be stronger as choices for her are going to be shocking and many sacrifices will be required too.
Erick Feig, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, announced the director’s name for the sequel, “We are excited to announce that we have found the perfect director to carry on the story of Tris Prior and the expanded world of ‘Insurgent’ in Robert Schwentke. Robert, with whom we have already had a successful relationship, has proven a master storyteller in multiple genres and we can’t wait to see what he brings to Veronica Roth’s next installment of the ‘Divergent’ series. As well, we are very happy to welcome Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman to the team as executive producers.” Following Divergent’s release this March, Insurgent will hit the big screens on March 20, 2015.
