Trainspotting actor Ewan McGregor will receive the Britannia Humanitarian Award at The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles for his work in promoting social change. The actor has been quite active when it comes to helping the less fortunate and propagating social reform. He recently visited the Debaga camp in northern Iraq and met the families of people affected by the conflict in the country.

The chairman of BAFTA Los Angeles Kieran Breen also praised the actor and said, “Ewan McGregor is not only a multi-talented individual, but has led by example in showing that even one person can make a huge difference in the life of a child”. He added, “Given his most recent work in Iraq, and ongoing commitment to the fight against the horrific conditions in which children there are living, he is most deserving of this honour”.

McGregor is a UK ambassador for United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). He spoke about the experience and shared that it was a “mind-bending” feeling. He played some sports with the kids and also delivered supplies.

Over the years, several actors including Idris Elba, Don Cheadle, Orlando Bloom, Mark Ruffalo, Richard Curtis and Colin Firth, have been honoured with the Britannia Humanitarian Award.
