Filmmaker David O Russell is in early talks to produce a new feature film based on a book. The filmmaker is planning to adapt author Matthew Quick’s basketball drama novel Boy21 to a feature film. He has earlier brought author Matthew Quick’s Silver Linings Playbook to the big screen back in 2012.

Current production companies to produce the film include John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd and Channing Tatum’s Free Association. John Whittington has been roped in as the script writer for the film. However, it is unclear as to who would direct and act in the movie.

The novel Boy21 was published by Little, Brown & Co. in the same year when Silver Linings Playbook was released. The story of the novel revolves around a boy named Finley who lives in a rough town which is ruled by Irish mob with violence and drugs. He takes care of his disabled grandfather at night. He only finds a route to escape violence by playing on the basketball court. One day he meets a kid who used to be a basketball player. But has now made promise to himself to only listen to a boy whose jersey number is 21, which used to be his jersey number also. It is a story friendship, justice and hope.
