The audiences are excitedly waiting for the launch of Game of Thrones’s sixth season and already speculations about seventh and eight seasons have begun. As per a report on The Hollywood Reporter, the makers of the fantasy drama series are planning for a seven-episode season 7 and six-episode season 8. However, a spokesperson from HBO has said in a statement, “Any conversations about the end of Game of Thrones and the number of episodes of future seasons is purely speculative”.

“As is customary, HBO will sit with Dan and David to discuss the details once a decision has been made to go forward with season seven”, he added. Grapevine also suggests that the producers of the show are mulling several options and there is also a possibility of not having an eight season. Hence, nothing is confirmed as of now.

Michael Lombardo, who is HBO’s entertainment president, said, “Ending Thrones] will be a tough one for me – partly as an executive and partly as a fan”, and added, “A show that resonates this way and works on all levels, it’s painful to imagine it ending. At the same time, David and Dan have a big responsibility and I respect that enormously. If we just keep going then we’re doing what the [broadcast] networks have done – and nobody wants to do that”. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones season 6 is all set to be aired from April 24.
