Free State of Jones Poster Revealed

The Civil War drama starring Matthew McConaughey, Free State of Jones, has got an official poster released by STX Entertainment. The action-drama will follow a Southern farmer Newt Knight, played by McConaughey. Gary Ross has written and directed the film. The poster shows a close up of the actor in black and white, with eyes wide open.

Free State of Jones shines light on the Civil War era and focuses on Newt and his rebellion against the Confederacy. The farmer, along with his band of local slaves and other small farmers fought for the freedom of Jones County, Mississippi. He was married to a slave girl named Rachel which was an extraordinary ordeal in that era.

Free State of Jones stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell, Sean Bridgers, Matt Lintz and Mahershala Ali, along with McConaughey. Scott Stuber, Ross and Jon Kilik are producing the film. It will be released on May 13.
