    Gena Rowlands To Receive Honorary Oscar

    Gena Rowlands who is widely lauded for her vivid acting ability will receive an honorary Oscar during Governors Awards ceremony to be held in Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland. The ceremony is expected to be packed with star studded audience.  The other stars to receive this unique award are Debbie Reynolds and Spike Lee.

    The legendary actress has been nominated twice for lead actress in her role for A Woman under the Influence and Gloria. Where, the first is directed by her late husband John Cassavetes; earning him a nomination as well. Gena Rowlands said on her ‘A Woman under the Influence’ character, "I liked the script very much," Rowlands said. "It was sort of a difficult role. But I like difficult roles."

    She sees a lot of John Cassavetes in her son Nick as his style of work assembles with of his husband. "He is much like John in his direction," she said. "He loves actors and doesn't throw himself around." While explaining the significance of the award, Academy said, “for "an extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the academy."
