The film adaptation of the classic young adult novel, The Giver, is one of the most anticipated ones in the coming days of Hollywood projects. The Giver has scored a big one recently as none other than The Iron Lady actress Meryl Streep has joined its cast.

It has been reported that Streep will join Jeff Bridges in the big-screen adaptation of Lowry's novel which is set to undergo production in October in South Africa. Streep will be playing the role of the authoritarian Chief Elder who has been given the responsibility to maintain order in the society which looks like utopian.

Her power faces confrontation from a young man (taken up by Brenton Thwaites) who has been selected as the receiver of reminiscences of the entire existence before the "sameness" movement begins. This movement poses a threat to the population and initiates conformism. The title character in the film, who shares all the memories, will be played by Bridges and this sharing experience ignites the wisdom of insurgence in the young man. The Weinstein Company and Walden Media will be co-producing the project with Bridges and Nikki Silver as producers on the board.
