The Great Gatsby has done pretty good business in its first weekend. The film by Baz Luhrmann has fetched $51 million from U.S. theatres but still it is not even approaching Disney's Marvel superhero sequel Iron Man 3. The film has added $72.5 million from domestic theatres and has grossed a total of $1 billion in worldwide box office.

Both the films The Great Gatsby and Iron Man 3 did an equal business of $19 million on Friday but Saturday was a huge walk for Iron Man sequel as it earned $32 million while Gatsby on the other hand was left behind and collected only $17.6 million. Gatsby opened in 3,535 theatres starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby in the lead. The other members of the cast include Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton.

The superhero film Iron Man 3 hit 4,253 theatres. The film starred Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. The sequel of Iron Man earned $284 million domestically, $89 million from overseas, and its international total was $664 million. This makes it a total of $664 million, a worldwide collection which means that heroic flicks are more entertaining the audience rather than romantic drama.
