Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Greg Berlanti is in talks to direct a big-screen adaptation of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. The LGBTQ-themed young-adult novel has been written by Becky Albertalli and was originally published in 2015. It tells the story of a closeted teen trying to come out on his own terms.

Greg Berlanti is the uber-producer behind TV shows like The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. The cinematic adaptation will not be his first directorial venture as he has previously helmed the 2010 film ‘Life as We Know It’. The screenplay will be written by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.

The project is expected to start shooting in 2017 with Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Pouya Shahbazian serving as producers. According to the book, the teenager is blackmailed by one of his classmates for being gay. Stephan Lee, who gave a review of the novel for EW, gave it an A grade.
